Today (29 January 2024), the long-awaited new “Mainland Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters (Reciprocal Enforcement) Ordinance (Cap. 645)” (the “Ordinance”) will come into force.

The Ordinance establishes a streamlined process for registering and enforcing Mainland judgments within the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). We have summarised the key highlights of the enforcement of the Ordinance, such as the removal of the exclusive jurisdiction requirement and an expanded scope of enforceable judgments.

To know more about the Ordinance and how it enhances certainty, predictability, and reduces the need for re-litigation, we invite you to read our latest article prepared by our Managing Partner, Alan Chiu, and our Partner, Simon Wong.
