Our Senior Consultant, Prof. Kenny Wong, recently gave a presentation at the 2025 Guangdong/Hong Kong Seminar on Intellectual Property and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) (Jiangmen), speaking in his role as Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee and at the invitation of the HKSAR Government.

Prof. Wong offered a thoughtful and comprehensive overview of how generative AI is reshaping the intellectual property landscape. He explained the challenges that arise when AI systems draw on vast amounts of third party content, and how this affects questions of authorship, ownership and infringement. He also compared the different approaches taken in the United States, Mainland China and the United Kingdom, providing the audience with an overview of how copyright continues to evolve.

He further examined the contractual and compliance issues that govern everyday AI use, highlighting how platform terms influence risk, liability and the control of generated content. The session concluded with practical guidance for SMEs seeking to adopt AI responsibly, supported by useful resources and policy frameworks.

At ELLALAN, we remain committed to clarifying complex issues at the intersection of law and technology. Prof. Wong’s contribution reflects our ongoing mission to support the public and the business community as they navigate the growing legal and ethical questions brought about by the rapid development of AI.
