Our Managing Partner Alan Chiu recently spoke at a CPD session jointly organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department. The programme drew 600+ attendees online and in person, reflecting strong interest among banking professionals in how intellectual property and artificial intelligence intersect.

The session offered a high level overview of core IP concepts and how they intersect with generative AI. It touched on the treatment of AI generated works across major jurisdictions, recent disputes and enforcement trends, PRC developments on labelling and platform responsibilities, common risk areas in training data and outputs, and a practical framework for governance, documentation, review and disclosure for banks.

As banks adopt AI, a clear grasp of IP risk, fair dealing and fair use, data provenance and vendor terms is now part of everyday compliance and operational resilience. Building this foundation helps teams deploy AI responsibly, protect assets and reputation, and make faster and more confident decisions.
